Bulgarian Ingredients for Rice

Cooking rice "in Bulgarian":

Step 1: Prepare the onion.

Peel the onion and cut into cubes or half rings, as you like. The slicing form does not matter. Fold chopped onions in a shallow plate.

Step 2: Prepare the tomatoes.

It is advisable that the tomatoes are very ripe. They need to be cut into small cubes. If you do not like the peel, you can remove it by first scalding the tomatoes with boiling water. Put chopped tomatoes in a deep plate.

Step 3: Prepare the garlic.

Garlic needs to be peeled and that’s it. You do not need to chop or rub it. We will use it in its entirety. He will give the dish its flavor and a little pungency, and that will be enough. Then it can be simply removed.

Step 4: Cook the rice "in Bulgarian".

Heat the pan over medium heat, add vegetable oil, add onions and garlic and fry until the onions are soft and translucent. Then add the tomatoes, mix thoroughly, salt and add bay leaf and pepper. Simmer vegetables on low heat for about 10 minutes.

Pour rice into stewed tomatoes and onions.

Mix rice with vegetables well and add water. Important! Water needs to be added only boiled and hot, so as not to impair the taste of the dish. Mix, try on salt, if necessary - add salt. Cover the pan and cook rice over low heat for about 15 minutes. Check the rice during this time, maybe it will cook faster.

As soon as there is no liquid left in the pan, turn off the fire, take out the bay leaf (it will be bitter) and garlic (you can leave it if you want to). Cover the rice with a lid and leave it for 5 minutes, if there is still at least some liquid left - the rice will draw it in. That's all, the rice is “in Bulgarian" ready.

Step 5: Serve the rice "in Bulgarian".

Arrange the cooked rice in plates and sprinkle with finely chopped herbs.
